Recently, someone asked me how I think about the remaining time in my life. Not because of anything immediate or impending - just as part of conversation of how we use our time, and whether or not we can truly make it more productive.

January and time to revisit priorities and goals, both from last year and for the year ahead. I had some time over the holidays to reflect and plan ahead, including my annual review of priorities and how things are lining up. My 2023 priorities will carry forward into 2024, but how did I do in 2023, the year that was. Here's a review of my priorities and how they stacked up last year. Last year, I started a new program called the Leadership Square*. Modelled after the concept of a Mastermind Group, the Square is a monthly-ish virtual gathering to talk about leadership, work, balance, and all manner of topics. I provide a topic and some suggested reading, and then those who are interest gather in the virtual square for discussion. The topic for February’s Square was passion and purpose. January and time to revisit priorities and goals, both from last year and for the year ahead. In December, I completed a reflection and retrospective of 2022. Now it's time to plan for 2023. I think whenever someone starts a business – whether it’s to make and sell something, provide a service, or create an empire – there’s a blend of not knowing anything about what to do and wanting to learn about the tools and principles that might work, but also having some sense of what you DON’T want to do or be. For me, I want to know about the tools and principles, but chafe at the notion that there are things I’m “supposed to” do in order to do it correctly. Correctly for who? No one knows my business and what I want it to be better than me, so how could anyone already have the formula that is best for me and my business? |
